Teams at 89
89 Squadron offers several extra curricular teams to provide the cadets with unique training and opportunities.
Drill

Drill team is a group of cadets who perform precision drill movements and marching. Unit drill teams compete against other Squadrons and Corps of all 3 elements of the cadet program to showcase their hard work, dedication and build esprit de corps.
89 Pacific Squadron’s Drill Team is a great way to develop leadership skills, lasting friendships and trust within the cadet community.

Groundschool

For any and all aspiring aviators! Ground school is a classroom based experience and the first step in any future pilots journey. Cadets will learn the basics of flight dynamics, air law and meteorology. This class is non-accredited, but will build a fundamental understanding before taking on the online ground school for the glider or power pilot programs. This course will also need to be completed before a cadet can partake in our CASC program if they so desire.

Class: Every second Thursday from 18:30-20:00 at the Bay Street Armory.

Band

89 Pacific RCACS maintains the rich history of Military Bands in Military Units, to promote morale and esprit de cour, inspire musicians affiliated with the CAF, and entertain guests at events. The Band at 89 is proud to keep alive this tradition, representing the Squadron each training night, and sometimes for regional competitions or pursuing further learning over the summer at CTCs. Band members learn specialised drill, military marches and music from popular culture, all while working as a team building lasting memories. New participants are always welcome, and no prior music knowledge or possession of an instrument is required.

Practice Schedule: Sundays 1400-1600.

Effective Speaking

The Effecting Speaking program is an optional training opportunity which provides cadets with crucial communication skills essential for their roles within 89 Pacific Squadron and in other areas of their lives. Cadets learn to articulate their thoughts clearly, present ideas persuasively and engage audiences with confidence. Cadets prepare for an annual Squadron competition in March, which is the first step in qualifying for Wing, Provincial and National level competitions. For more detailed information on the competition rules and regulations, please visit the National Effective Speaking Program website
